Pick a Water Temperature and Cycle

Everyday laundry can be washed at any temperature, but these are the only fabrics that can be washed in hot water. Select the water temperature according to the soil level—the dirtier the item, the hotter the water should be. You may also want to wash dark, brightly colored, or brand new items in warm or cold water.

    Select a water temperature:
  1. When heavily soiled: Use hot water.
  2. Items that are not very dirty: Use warm water.
  3. When moderately to mildly soiled: Use warm water.
  4. Dark, brightly colored, or brand new items: Use warm or cold water.

Why wash sheets and towels in hot water?

Sheets and towels are often in contact with body oils and body products (like lotion) which can cause staining, discoloration, and dinginess. Washing sheets and towels in warm or cold water will not be effective in removing these elements. Hot water provides the most thorough and hygienic cleaning.
